Our Background

The team behind Green Bean Nigeria have been working in coffee for more than eight years. Our founder and CEO, Abdulrahman, started working in Yemen to support producers to improve their production and processing operations.

After several years working with Sabcomeed and Mokha not Mocha to support Yemeni coffee producers and export their coffee, we identified an opportunity in Nigeria. Much like Yemen, Nigeria had previously been a well-renowned global coffee producer, but for a number of reasons, its export figures had significantly declined.

While we initially began working in the instant coffee segment in Nigeria, we soon realised that our experiences in Yemen translated perfectly – and could be horizontally integrated into our Nigerian operations.

Our Philosophy

At Green Bean, our aim is to improve the recognition of underrepresented origins which have the potential to grow high-quality coffee. By doing this, we can improve the perception of these origins on an international scale, supporting farmers and driving growth in the local coffee market.

Our founder Abdulrahman has had success with this approach in Yemen through Mokha not Mocha. Inspired by geographical indication frameworks established in Europe (denominations of origin for cheese, wine, etc), he has helped to build the reputation of Yemeni coffee as a quality-focused origin through coffee processing and export.

By leveraging these experiences from the Yemeni coffee sector, Abdulrahman and the team will use what they have learned to empower Nigerian coffee producers. In future, the hope is that the country can be recognised as a prime destination for high-scoring specialty coffees.

The Future for Green Bean Nigeria

Our aim is to improve the perception of quality of Nigerian coffee by investing in several key areas, including:

  • Coffee processing
  • Local infrastructure
  • Market access
  • Origin awareness

We know that with the right investment, Nigeria has huge potential to grow quality coffee. The terroir and weather conditions, especially in regions like Taraba and Cross River, can yield fantastic cup profiles – but only if the infrastructure for improving quality is there. Our team is already working closely with producers to empower them and achieve this. In the meantime, we hope to drive international interest in Nigerian coffee for export. Beyond investing in coffee production, we also want to help scale the local market for domestic consumption. By the beginning of 2026, we want to establish a roasting facility to vertically integrate our operations and drive Nigeria’s coffee culture forward – both for production and consumption.
